Turkish club president punches ref
Turkish football bosses suspended all leagues after a referee was punched to the ground by a club president following a top-flight game on Monday.

Halil Umut Meler was struck by MKE Ankaragucu president Faruk Koca, who ran on to the pitch after his team conceded a 97th-minute equaliser in a 1-1 Super Lig draw with Caykur Rizespor.

Unbelievable.

All club games have been suspended in Turkey. But what kind of further punishment awaits Mr Koca? Relegation plus a massive fine?

I hope David Sullivan doesn't get any ideas...

Good, it's not before time that a ref was laid out. Vermin, the lot of them.

haven't seen the goal or if seven minutes extra time was needed but I have seen enough just this season that corruption is rife throughout the sport, and technology has done nothing but make it worse. refereeing standards have got no better since I stopped going

Sensational viewing. The other angles of people putting the boot in while he's on the ground are flabbergasting - quite how anyone thinks they're getting away with that I don't know.

Decisive action by the Turkish FA banning all football until a review has taken place. No fucking way would the liberal twats do that here

Loons in that part of the world, it was only a couple of seasons ago that the PAOK owner in Greece strutted onto the pitch with a revolver in a holster

"This attack is a night of shame for Turkish football," he added.

Meler received several blows from others as he lay on the turf and suffered injuries including a minor fracture.

The incident sparked chaotic scenes involving players and club officials.

"I hope David Sullivan doesn't get any ideas..."

I suppose we can rest easy knowing that even if Sullivan did get that idea, the whole stadium would be long empty before he could cover the distance to reach the ref in the middle of the pitch?

Bit of banter and tbf the ref does have a face that you’d want to punch.

Seems a bit self important of the Turkish FA to halt the whole league over this. Just one bloke, one punch. Happens.

Ref should should be suspended for simulation.

I witnessed a ref get his jaw broken by a player who played for a team of yardies from Guildford.

He then proceeded to offer everyone out for a fight, including opposition players, his own team mates, and fans watching.

Bloke was a lunatic.

CNN Turk report Koca, twice elected to Turkey’s parliament as part of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s ruling AK Party, said: “This incident developed due to the wrong decisions and provocative behaviour of the referee. My aim was to react verbally to the referee and spit in his face.

“At this time, I slapped the referee in the face. The slap I gave did not cause a fracture.

“After the slap I gave, the referee stood for about 5-10 seconds, then threw himself on the ground. They immediately removed me from the scene because of my heart disease. Other than that, I am not aware of any incident that took place.”

There’s always two sides to a story. Reading that it sounds like six of one, half a dozen of the other.

Let’s hope common sense prevails, and the ref gets his fair share of punishment for this too.

"My aim was to...spit in his face."

Blimey! The EU want as a full member a country who's elite and educated find that a socially acceptable form of communication?
